Virtual city offers energy solutions

Greenpeace's new virtual city - otherwise know as EfficienCity - is looking to provide a number of examples of how the UK could cut emissions and improve energy supply security.

The new virtual project is aimed at showing the public how the UK can combat climate change and includes videos, slideshows and "real world examples".

Commenting on the scheme, Greenpeace energy advisor Darren Shirley states that its examples could be adopted in towns across Britain and adds that the organisation wants people to get in touch with their politicians and "demand real change".

"We're hoping that visitors to the city will see that these technologies aren't science fiction - they're already available today," Mr Shirley adds.

In related news, environment secretary Hilary Benn said recently that the UK was "on track" to meet commitments set out in the Kyoto agreement.

However, he also said that more could be done. Mr Benn argued that "we must do much more across the board" and that people have to "make a real change to every aspect of their lives".
